In a June 2022 press release, Unilever Corporation clearly stated “Unilever rejects completely and repudiates unequivocally any form of discrimination or intolerance. Antisemitism has no place in any society”. And yet, as the parent to Ben & Jerry’s, Unilever seems to have turned a blind eye to this type of racism. As a direct result, the North Carolina Retirement Systems pension fund is withdrawing $40 million dollars from Ben & Jerry’s and affiliates. This includes its parent company, Unilever PLC.
Ben & Jerry’s has long been an advocate for far left, radical ideas. In 2021, the company announced that it would no longer operate in Israel, siding with Hamas and other radical extremists. By contrast, the North Carolina legislature passed a law in 2017 prohibiting the North Carolina Retirement Systems or the Department of State Treasurer from investing in any company engaged in a boycott of Israel. When North Carolina State Treasurer Dale Folwell, a Republican, announced the decision to divest last month, he made special note of the Oct. 7 atrocities in Israel after the Hamas attack, stressing that antisemitism will not be tolerated by North Carolinians.
North Carolina Isn’t Alone In Divesting Itself of Ben & Jerry’s
North Carolina is hardly alone in its opposition to Ben & Jerry’s brand of racism. Arizona, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Texas have also pulled their retirement funds from the left wing, antisemitic company. North Carolina waited as long as it did only because of procedures that had to be followed before the action could be taken, according to Folwell.
Antisemitism is rampant within the Democrat party and has been building for quite some time. The left spews their abhorrent, antisemitic ideology in public schools, on college campuses (see Claudine Gay, Liz Magill, etc.) and in the halls of Congress with Democrats Cori Bush (MS), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Jamaal Bowman (NY) and Rashida Tlaib (MI) sympathizing with Hamas terrorists. It’s good to see that the great state of North Carolina will not turn a blind eye to this kind of abhorrent thinking.
