This week two more Republicans threw their hat into the ring to run for President of the United States.

That brings the total count up to seven as of today who want to be the leader of the free world with others, including former Vice President Mike Pence and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin considering their own runs.

We say fantastic.  Through the debate of ideas, our party and America grow stronger.

Reuel Sample: Welcome to the NHC GOP Podcast. Friday Update for May 26th, 2023. I am Reuel Sample. This week, two more Republicans threw their hat into the ring to run for president of the United States. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina.

Senator Tim Scott: I am living proof that America is the land of opportunity. I was raised by a single mother in poverty. She taught me to have stubborn faith, faith in God, faith in ourselves and faith in America. I rose from a child of poverty to a candidate for president of the United States.

Reuel Sample: Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida.

Govenor Ron DeSantis: We need the courage to lead and the strength to win. I’m Ron DeSantis and I’m running for president to lead our great American comeback.

Reuel Sample: They join a host of others, including former President Donald Trump.

Announcer for Donald Trump: The truth. There’s only one Donald Trump. Only one who gave us the largest tax cuts in history.

Reuel Sample: Former South Carolina governor and ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley.

Ambassador Nikki Haley: Republicans have lost the popular vote in seven out of the last eight presidential elections. That has to change. Joe Biden’s record is abysmal, but that shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Washington establishment has failed us over and over and over again. It’s time for a new generation of leadership.

Reuel Sample: Radio talk show host Larry Elder.

Larry Elder: I’ve been doing TV and radio for 40 years, mostly criticizing politicians. I know how brutal it is. I know how your enemies will dissect things that you’ve said and put the worst spin on it or will even make things up. But I think I bring a couple of things to the table that others don’t.

Reuel Sample: Former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson.

Govenor Asa Hutchinson: I bring that same vigor to a fight in another battle. And that battle is for the future of our country and the soul of our party.

Reuel Sample: Venture capitalist Vivek Ramaswamy.

Vivek Ramaswamy: And that is why today I am announcing my run for President of the United States. This isn’t just a political campaign. This is a cultural movement to create a new American dream for the next generation.

Reuel Sample: That brings the total count up to seven as of today who want to be the leader of the free world with others, including former Vice President Mike Pence and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin considering their own runs.

Reuel Sample: We in the Republican Party say fantastic. We are a party of ideas. Over the next several months, we will hear from these candidates on how their ideas will best lead America and how best to lead the world. No doubt this primary season will be grueling as candidates vie with each other and with an adversarial press that is firmly in the hands of the liberal left to get their points out to Republicans and the rest of America.

Reuel Sample: And again, fantastic. It is through this process that candidates go through boot camp, finding the best ways to get their message out, to see who has the strength and endurance to lead this nation. Because running for president is nowhere near as exhausting as being president. And which candidate resonates enough with Republicans to get the nod to go against the Democrat challenger. That is what primaries are all about. And we as a party welcome the sharpening of our ideas through this intense debate. It only serves to strengthen our country.

Reuel Sample: The press will say that GOP cringes at this big field of candidates. The media will say they all must gang up on one of them in order to get ahead. The talking heads will try to connect this big field of candidates to disarray in the Republican Party. Nothing is farther from the truth.

Reuel Sample: As we go into the season of campaigns, carefully consider every candidate. Think about their stances on issues that are important to you personally and vital to this nation. Which candidate best reflects your values and can that candidate win in the general election? And cast your vote. We as a party are prohibited from endorsing any candidate during the primaries because we want to hear from you as to who you think should lead this country. Primaries are all about the individual candidate, so research, endorse or even join whatever candidate’s team you think should be nominated.

Reuel Sample: Just remember that come November 2024, the general elections are all about party. So whether your individual candidate received the nomination or not just remember that any of them are far better than any candidate that Democrat Party will put forward. And any difference in Republicans is far smaller than the vast gulf that exists between us and the liberal left.

Reuel Sample: From all of us we wish you a great Memorial Day weekend. For the NHC GOP podcast I’m Reuel Sample. Thanks for listening.
