For immediate release:

New Hanover County, NC – Marcia Morgan has been announced as the Democrat’s replacement for Governor Cooper’s hand-picked candidate — Jason Minnicozzi — who was forced to withdraw from the race for NC Senate District 7 due to predatory behavior and abuse of power allegations. This marks the third candidate that has announced their intention to run against Senator Michael Lee this year. Coincidentally, this is Ms. Morgan’s third run for political office. Despite the hundreds of thousands of dollars pouring in from out of state to her previous campaigns, she was unsuccessful, and we expect this time to be no different. For Ms. Morgan and Governor Cooper, the third time will not be the charm.

“North Carolina is in a better position than most because of the responsible budgeting and common-sense tax and spending policies that Senator Lee has supported in the North Carolina Senate,” stated Will Knecht, Republican Party Chair in New Hanover County. “With the economy in a tailspin, we simply cannot afford to go back to the Democrat’s reckless tax and spending policies that wreaked havoc on our state over a decade ago and are doing the same to our country now. That is what this election will be about, and the contrast could not be starker. We look forward to Senator Lee highlighting the many accomplishments from his time in Raleigh over the course of the campaign and continuing to show the citizens of New Hanover County that he is the leader we need to represent us in Raleigh.”

“In November, the voters of New Hanover County will make clear that they want Senator Michael Lee back in Raleigh to keep the government off your back and their hand out of your pocket,” said Knecht.
